Are you looking for your next challenge? Our client, based in Manchester is a well-established civils and construction company with 200 years under their belt. They are one of our most progressive clients, open to change, with award winning EDI and high staff retention rates. Their ambition to grow from £500m to a £1billion by 2023 is matched by their strategy to achieve it.

Part of their strategy means that they need a strong civils Bid Manager to take a lead role in their civils bid team.

This is a senior role, leading major civils bids. This includes managing the input of the design team, in-house personnel and supply chain. Your role is to bring your knowledge, skill and bid management expertise to winning bids. You will drive productively and deliver high-quality, strong commercial submissions to their clients.

You will need a high level of knowledge in relation to construction practices and design principles, while also being able to present high quality bid documents.

One of the key skills of the Bid Manager will be the effective management of all those who input into the tender, and therefore you must be a highly-organised individual who can programme the work of others. You must also be able to work under the pressure of tender deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for ensuring bids are submitted on time and to a high standard.
  • Report as required on the progress of each bid against agreed programme.
  • Review technical solutions to ensure most cost efficient solutions are submitted.
  • Implement bid strategies to co-ordinate the preparation and submission of the bid and achieve agreed bid objectives.
  • Liaise with design teams, other staff, and supply chain to ensure high quality bids are submitted.
  • Present internally for approval, information incl technical responses, staffing and administration structures for bid preparation.
  • Effectively maintain relevant databases and ensure information is up to date.
  • Follow core business systems and policies throughout your area of responsibility.
  • Co-ordinate, prepare and continually review bid submissions.
  • Prepare meeting schedules and coordination of the design and construct teams.
  • Prepare bid presentations.
  • Be able to work overtime when required.
  • Be flexible as some travelling will be required from time to time.

The role of Bid Manager is to provide group wide support to the sales teams when responding to PQQ’s, RFI’s, RFP’s, ITT’s, and any large or strategic bid.

The Bid Manager is responsible for assembling a bid team with the relevant technical / commercial / service / business knowledge required in order to prepare a winning bid, whilst taking ownership of the end-to-end process. The Bid Manager will act as the main point of contact for the customer on bids and establish credibility with the customer. They will have an excellent appreciation of customer needs and be able to articulate how these are met. The Bid Manager is responsible for ensuring that bid documents are of a consistently high standard and are produced in a timely manner and meet all legal, commercial and technical requirements. The role also includes helping to develop and maintain bid procedures and processes.

This is a highly networked role that requires an ability to work under pressure and to challenging deadlines, and requires strong people management skills in a dynamic sales environment.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the end-to-end management of bids
  • Responsible for briefing and liaison with key stakeholders in the production and delivery of all documentation and other materials for bid submission, including content – legal, commercial, financial, marketing etc.
  • To ensure that all bids have a formal kick off meeting and bid plan, with responsibilities and timescales documented and agreed and to ensure that the win themes, technical solution and approach are understood by all members of the team and articulated in the bid document
  • Key point of contact for gathering and collation of materials from all relevant parties in the building and submission of bids
  • To progress/chase the input to bids, escalating issues where appropriate
  • Collaborating with staff across the business to ensure efficient and accurate bids
  • To co-ordinate bid reviews to the appropriate level, ensuring that all bids are comprehensively reviewed at each stage in the process and sign-off(s) by the relevant parties
  • To identify and mitigate risk on bids
  • Draft content for bids when required
  • To facilitate customer feedback on the quality of bids submitted, identifying areas of strength and weakness
  • and feeding this information back in to the business (i.e. to the Director of Sales/Marketing in order to further improve the quality of bids – “lessons learnt” (Won/Lost order survey?).
  • Identification, ownership and fulfilment of Public Sector frameworks, including establishment, management and retention of relationships

Required Skills

The Bid Manager will have a good understanding of the Software Industry and ideally the ERP Enterprise space, with solid experience in a Bid Manager role, a proven track record of helping to win large and complex opportunities, commercial awareness and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
